Convinced she wasn’t telling the truth, he accused her of meeting another man in secret and said he wanted a divorce.
Shocked by the accusation, Emily returned to the exact same spot later that day. She recreated the photograph from the same angle and immediately discovered the explanation. The horse’s saddle, stirrup, and the position of its front leg combined with the wooden fence in the background to create a convincing optical illusion that resembled a person standing behind her. From a different angle, the illusion disappeared completely.
When she showed her husband the recreated photo, he finally realized he had let suspicion cloud his judgment. What he believed was undeniable proof turned out to be nothing more than a trick of perspective.
