JOKE OF THE DAY

A police officer was convinced he had discovered the perfect hiding spot for catching speeders — a sharp curve on the highway where no driver could possibly see him until the very last second. Every holiday weekend, he parked there with his radar gun ready, ticket pad open, already imagining how many violations he’d write within the first hour.

Usually, it was easy money.

But this Labor Day was different.

Thirty minutes passed — not a single car was speeding. Every driver rolled by exactly at the speed limit. Some even waved politely as they passed, almost as if they already knew he was there. The officer narrowed his eyes. Something wasn’t right.

Ten more minutes went by. Still nothing. Perfectly behaved traffic, one car after another.

Frustrated and suspicious, the officer stepped out of his car and began scanning the road. He checked the bushes. The guardrail. The curve. Nothing unusual.

Then he heard it.

A faint voice shouting from somewhere behind him.

He turned — and there, sitting on a small folding chair just up the road, was an old man holding a huge neon sign painted by hand.

It read:

“SLOW DOWN — POLICE HIDING AROUND THE CURVE.”

The officer stormed toward him.
“Sir, what do you think you’re doing?”

The old man shrugged.
“Just helping out.”

“You can’t do this! You’re ruining my entire operation!”

The old man calmly stood up, packed his chair, and said:

“Oh, don’t worry. I’m just doing my part. My buddy is down the road collecting donations in a bucket. Every driver who avoids a ticket gives him five dollars.”

The officer froze.

He looked down the highway — and sure enough, there was a second old man waving happily as cars stopped to hand him cash.

And that’s how two retirees made more money than the police department that entire weekend.

Sometimes the smartest people on the road aren’t the ones with the radar gun — they’re the ones with the marker and cardboard.
