They can sense subtle hormonal shifts, chemical changes, or even health problems like urinary tract infections, diabetes, or abnormal hormone levels. Some studies show that trained dogs have even detected cancers and infections just through scent.
If your dog has never acted that way before and suddenly can’t seem to stop, it might be their way of alerting you that something is off. Dogs rely on scent to read emotions, health, and stress — they can even pick up the smell of certain medications or infections.
